The Souvignier Gris B variety was developed by the Freiburg Research Institute in Germany (WBI, Staatliches Weinbauinstitut Freiburg). It has good resistance to powdery mildew, downy mildew, and black rot. Thanks to its upright growth habit, the variety adapts well to mechanical pruning. Its gray and/or pink berries are very distinctive. The pulp of its berries and thick skins contribute to its good suitability for skin maceration. Depending on the vintage and terroir, the aromatic expression of Souvignier Gris B varies from fruity and exotic notes to boxwood or vegetal sulfur notes.
