The Muscaris B variety was selected by the Freiburg Research Institute in Germany (WBI, Staatliches Weinbauinstitut Freiburg). Its resistance to fungal diseases, namely downy mildew and powdery mildew, is good. Muscaris B is a vigorous variety with medium to high yields compared to Chardonnay. Its bud break period is similar to Pinot blanc (characterized as early to medium), and its maturity period is considered medium, a few days before Pinot blanc. Compared to wines from Riesling and Sauvignon, wines produced from this variety are more floral and sweet with less acidity. Muscat notes are particularly prominent in these wines.
